What makes a good thriller soundtrack

Elements of what makes a good soundtrack
To create an effective soundtrack for a thriller it needs to be able to set the scene and ctreate an atmosphere. I feel that a good way to set the mood is through the use of minor key, this creates a sad or upestting environment. A precussive heart beat sound and the increasing in tempo and pitch, unsettles the audience and allows them to feel and relive the emotions that the actors on the screen felt. Using nursery rhymes that have been slowed down create a creepy and eerie atmosphere and makes people feel uncomfortable. createing a peice of music that has a chromatic tone also unsettles the audience, and finally repetition, this is because it make the audience feel the same thing over and over.

Sub-genre

Wordle: Untitled
There are many different types of sub-genres. The genre that Courtney and I have decided that will base our thriller opening on is crime and Film-Noir. We decided on these two sub-genres as we feel that the crime could spiral into revenge and the film-Noir creates a tense and builds up the audience with the use of atmosphere and allows them to feel more towards the action on screen.

Props

Courtney and I decided that we would only have very few props as we would make them seem more effective and important in the footage and scene that they are in. We would do this by using the prop to symbolise different things and elements, such as the teddy bear would be used to symbolise abandonment and will emphasise the mothers feelings in the opening.

On the day

Filming preparation-
On the day we will have my younger sister as the young child in the opening, and Courtney parents will be the mother and villain in the scene.
We will being using Courtney's parents car as the car that we will be using for our filming.

Organisation- Lighting

We decided to film during the day, this way the location will be fully light and there will be no problem on the lighting front. Our initial ideas were to film early in the morning with a small amount of darkness with the sky getting lighter. There were many problems with this and so we decided to go back and change it. One major problem was that as we were re-taking shots it was getting progressively lighter and so when we edited there would be no continually and would cause issues.

Our thriller's title

Courtney and myself spent a large amount of time discussing what the title of our thriller would be. Our initial ideas came from the film 'Taken', and so we found alternative words that we could use for our thriller. That was when we came across the word Commandeer. Commandeer means officially take possession or control of (something). We felt that commandeer fitted the theme of our thriller and therefore we decided to name our thriller 'The Commandeering'

Costume

Courtney and I discussed the costume that we will need for our actors. We decided that:
(Nayana Thompson)- The child will be seen wearing white clothing to symbolise purity and innocence. We got the idea of the child wearing white from Cape Fear, this is because in  the school yard scene of Cape Fear the young girl is wearing white clothing to emphasise her innocence.
(Shelley Fowler)- The mother featured in our thriller opening will be be wearing casual clothing as she does not lay an important part. This will effectively look as if the child has been somewhere and she is just collecting her.
(Danny Fowler)- The villain will wear dark clothing to highlight his intentions, in the way that he is planning to do wrong. The fact that he will be wearing dark clothing also keeps him a mysterious character.
